A very personal view on movies

Most of my family worked at a local Cinema, so I grew up spending many hours there, watching all kinds of movies. It's been many years, but I still watch movies and share my opinions on them. Feel free to read my articles and share your views.

Police, Adjective (2009)

A Romanian film called Politist, adj., easy to watch from my part since I am also Romanian. Directed by Corneliu Porumboiu, the story of a young policeman who’s got a big dilemma: should he arrest or not a young man (high-school age) who’s smoking “pot” and also offering to 2 of his closest friends.
The policeman [...]

This Is It (2009)

One of these days I was a bit tired of all those “smart” movies and wanted to relax a bit. Since music is also a good thing to have in mind, was interested in combining the two. Many of my friends had already seen “This Is It” and their raving reviews made me even more [...]

The Pianist (2002)

Warsaw, Poland, 1939. A young famous pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), is working as a musician for the local radio. His life will change, once the Nazi start moving them to the ghettos and then to the concentration camps. He is able to escape and lives in the ruins of Warsaw.
Everytime we see a war [...]

Avatar (2009)

I asked in my personal blog (won’t link you to it, since I assume you don’t read Romanian) what movies should I review, now that I revived TAM as a blog. Some of my readers told me Avatar is the new thing. I read other reviews on it and everyone has an opinion. One thing [...]

The Proposal (2009)

Margaret Tate is the loathed chief-editor at Ruick & Hunt Publishing. Younger than Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada movie, but as “nice” and “loved” like the other one. Her executive assistant and aspirant editor Andrew Paxton is the one she turns to when in danger of being deported back to Canada, because of [...]

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Before I write ANYTHING on this topic, I have to confess I have a HUGE admiration for Meryl Streep. Expect quite some reviews on her movies, since she is by far my favourite actress. I watched Devil Wears Prada because she was in a leading role (not officially since Anne Hathaway was no.1, but she [...]

Empire of the Sun (1987)

I am a firm believer in the beauty of the written word. I have read books after seeing the movie or vice-versa and in many cases the movie failed to rise to the the written story’s perfection. Well, Empire of the Sun the movie, did J.G. Ballard a service, by making an arid mediocre book [...]

The Bodyguard (1992)

.. or in other words, I’m getting old.
Few nights ago TCM reminded us of Whitney Houston, when she still had a voice and a career, and Kevin Costner and one of the roles that helped him drive a more expensive car. When I saw the first scenes that helped me recognize the movie, I realized [...]

Instead of a Hello!

If you used to visit the forums we had here, you might be surprised. I assume in a good way, since the old forum used to have some pesky errors. Working with SMF (Simple Machines Forums) was a permanent frustration for me and in the end the script took its revenge. My time is pretty [...]
